Winter in one month, really?

I can hear you from here: "I wish so much I'd be in this guy's shoes right now..." I bet you would LOL. Not only is he enjoying a nice baguette sandwich (OK, I'm making up the baguette part...), but on top of that, it's almost like spring in Paris at the moment. Today is November 24 and the forecast says it'll be 14°c (57° F) in the afternoon (+5° compare to a "normal" November)! A-ma-zing! I took this photo near Notre Dame BTW, where they are currently installing the big Christmas tree - which I will show you eventually of course ;-) BTW(2) Happy Thanksgiving to all my American visitors - Go easy on the Turkey LOL!

Summer dawn in Paris

Peaceful, lovely, charming... No need to pick one of these adjectives, they all apply. Like you can see the sun has returned over Paris and it helps shooting beautiful photos (easy ones too, I agree!). I won't add much except that the first brigdge you can see is Le pont des arts and that it is rare when the Seine is that calm. Simply gorgeous!

Hurrah, the sun showed up!

Hard to believe, we saw a ray of sun today... It was even warm at lunch time! So warm that some people even ventured at Paris Plage. As I told you, our yearly beach opened 2 days ago, and like every year it breaks a couple of records: twice the amount of sand as last year, Sleeping beauty castle, giant deck chairs... and a lot of daily events. I'll show you more along the month of course.

Paris by night

I'm just back from an evening out in Paris. On the way back, the weather was so nice, I took "Le chemin des écoliers" (the long way round) and I did not regret it! Need I say more?

Love!

I'm not in Paris today, but I know the sun sun is shining. And I know that there must be plenty of lovers by the Seine... Now tell me you would not like to be in their shoes! See here the next episode...

Street Fishing!

Add "ing" to any English word (dancing (a night-club), lifting (a facelift), teasing (a marketing operation to get attention)...) and put it in the middle of a French sentence and you'll start a trend! I just found a new one; it's called Street Fishing and, according to an article I just read, it's a new trend... Frankly there have been fishermen along the Seine fror quite some time, but if "they" say it's a new trend, well why not?! FYI, street fishing is what the participants in the picnic may do this Saturday as I finally decided it would take place at the usual location. See more, here.

It's a Seine world, after all!

Whereas the world has been preoccupied with recent events in Pakistan, this couple has other things on their mind... What could be more important in life than spending an afternoon with a loved one along the Seine?Let's leave it at that ;-)

A tribute to the land down under

The Seine is overflowing at the moment (there are benches near the trees normally , I already told you before Christmas, but compared to the terrible images I saw today about Australia and the region of Brisbane in particular (see this video) it's really nothing. I exchanged emails with people who have family over there today and they really seemed devastated, so since I have a fair amount of visitors from "the land down under" I thought I pay my tribute to them by posting this photo.

And now the floods!

I don't know if we offended the gods or anything, but this year's weather really sucks. No only have we broken a cold record (the coldest December since 1969!), not only did we have snow like - almost - never, but on top of that, now the Seine is overflowing! I took this photo yesterday near Notre Dame, where the water even dragged a garbage can out of its normal location. Quite impressive. Even the Bateaux Mouches are currently stopped because there is not enough space under the bridges! The funny part is that I'm leaving today for Chamonix, a ski resort in the Alps. More snow for me!

Endangered spieces?

These two guys are "bouquinistes", that is shopkeepers that have been granted the right to own a little box by the Seine banks to store and sell old books to the passers-by. Problem: people buy less and less books from little shop owners, they prefer to go on line or to larger stores... Consequently the bouquinistes started selling other stuff than books, souvenirs for instance, to make the ends meet. The problem is that their contract specifies that they must sell books and nothing else and the Paris town hall has started chasing those who don't play by the rules. It is also trying to find a solution to boost their income, like a Fête des bouquinistes, for instance. I doubt this will be enough.... How about selling kindles?!

Another view of the Seine

Here is a view of La Seine (the river that runs through Paris) that you probably have never seen. I took it from a Tower at La Défense, the Business district of Paris. Technically it is not really Paris (the right bank that you can see in this photo belongs to Neuilly, a little suburb right outside Paris), but it's really next to it. FYI, according to Wikipedia the name Seine comes from Sequana, which, as you all know is Latin for Sicauna(!) which apparently means "sacred river". It is 777 km (486 miles) long.

The sinking bus...

I did not really have the intention to go to see the bus that fell into the Seine, but I happened to pass by the "crime scene" this afternoon (Friday) and I could not help but stopping and taking a photo. For those of you who haven't seen my news flash yesterday, an Austrian bus fell into the Seine right at the level of the Eiffel Tower. No casualties as there was no one on board, but a pretty unusual scene. They had to find a crane large enough to extract the bus from the river, and it was not that easy... But they finally managed. The driver said he did put the breaks on, that he does not understand what happened... Anyway, if you haven't seen the video, check it here (huge success: 300 000 views in one day!). Don't know why, but this made me think of this commercial...

Jogging along the Seine

Summertime, sun, outdoor, feeling more relax... isn't that the perfect moment to go back to "doing some exercise, I feel so good afterwards!" Well yes, that is surely what this lady is thinking - besides running along the Seine is probably much more appealing than among cars... Mind you the embankment of the Hudson river is not that bad either, remember? As for me, I just renewed my membership to the gym yesterday! (You did not think I was going to run anywhere else than on a machine, did you?!).

Sunset

I know it's a classic, but I never get tired of it. I took it last night while the sun was going to bed... and the sky was still cloudy. For those of you who would not know: on the left La Conciergerie, on the right Les voies sur Berge (a sort of express way that the mayor of Paris wants to close and turn into a pedestrian area) and in the background Le Pont Neuf. Comme to the 5th PDP picnic this Sunday (June 6) at 1 PM you will see more or less the same scenery except that the sky will be deep blue! More details on this Facebook Page

5th PDP Picnic

Even though some of you may have seen my unforgettable number in this video, today is the official 5th PDP picnic invitation post. For once it will take place on a Sunday (June 6th) and around lunch time so that we can take advantage of the sun (I'm sure the gods will watch over us!). The location is "as usual" the embankment at the end of rue de l'Amiral Coligny near the Louvre. More on Facebook. I hope a lot of you will be able to attend.

A window to the Eiffel Tower

I had lunch on a Péniche (a flat barge made for rivers) on the Seine today and it was a real treat because the weather was really fantastic. It was not that kind of boats that run up and down the river while you have lunch or dinner, but one that companies can rent for a party or any event and that stays along the banks. This one belongs to La Compagnie des Bâteaux à roue (the Paddle wheel boats company), it is called Le Clipper Paris and it's beautifully decorated (click here to visit their site, then look for "The boats", then "Le Clipper Paris"). As you can see, the Eiffel Tower is not far from it!

A Ministry with a view

Yesterday morning (Wednesday) I attended a presentation of the new blog of Anne-Marie Idrac, the French Minister in charge of foreign trade at the Ministry of Finance, also referred to as "Bercy", because it is located in an area precisely called Bercy! It's a magnificent building, very modern and very impressive, on the edge of La Seine. The presentation took place on the 7th floor and you know me... While I was waiting for the Minister, I took my camera and started shooting! It's not every day that you get to overlook Paris from that part of town.

View on the Seine

I rarely post twice in a row a photo that I took in the same place, but today I'll make an exception for I also took this photo at the Paris town hall - but this time through the window. What do you think about the view? Not bad eh? The statue is the one of Etienne Marcel a former provost of the merchants of Paris during the 14th century  (see more on Wikipedia). And the buildings on the the other side of the Seine are located on the Saint Louis island.
