Paris menagerie...

There are many many animals in Paris, and I'm not only talking about pets. There is a big zoo (in Vincennes, which is very close to Paris - and currently closed until 2104), the Ménagerie du jardin des plantes (with about a 1 000 animals!), le jardin d'acclimatation in the Bois de Boulogne (West of Paris) and a few other places where you can mostly see birds or fish (like in the superb Trocadero Aquarium). One ting is for sure, there are NO tigers hanging out at Bastille, unless they are stuffed, like the ones I photographed ;-). Theme day : fences (and walls!)

In France - and in most European countries - November 1st is a holiday, as it's the day where living people go and visit the dead, in cemeteries. It's also a theme day (check it here) within the City Daily Photo blog community. And today's theme is Fences! I thought of showing you a fence within a cemetery, but I did not find any... So instead here is a wall, that I shot in Le Marais, at rue des Archives. A little less theme day compliant, but a little merrier ;-) I really wonder what's behind this wall!

Mysterious object?

October 1st (already!), therefore a theme day. The CityDailyPhoto community chose "Mysterious Object". I looked and looked and looked and really could not think of something, until I came across this photo that I had taken a few days ago and never showed to you. It's part of a huge open air photo exhibit located on the Quai Branly, near the Eiffel Tower that features artists from all over the world. This one is Russian, he's called Sergey Loier and he loves surrealism! Click here to view thumbnails for all participants.

Perspective (theme day)

Here we are, the 1st of the month and since I've been away these past 5 days I had not anticipated the theme day... Shame on me. It's only yesterday that I found out it was "Perspective". So here you go, a quick and dirty "Tenin perspective" from the Metro, more precisely Line 14, that I took on the way back from the Gare de Lyon where I arrived from Nîmes. Go visit the "Dailyphotoblogosphere" and find out what they chose for the theme day... Back to work now!

Green Broom

On this 1st of July our Theme day is "Green". I could have photographed a tree, but I already took a tree related photo a couple of days ago. Instead I dug out this photo of a typical Paris cleaners' broom that I photographed recently on my way to the gym. Isn't this green vibrant? Check what's green in the other cities of the City daily Photo bloggers community.

Theme day: under (re)construction

Shame on me, I almost forgot it's a theme day today... What theme? "Under construction". You can imagine that in a city like Paris, there are more reconstructions than actual constructions... Hence this very famous Carreau du Temple, a huge covered market in Le Marais, that was built in 1863 and was pretty dormant lately, until the Town hall decided to give it a new life (check this animation). I can't wait... Click here to see what is under construction throughout the world!

Mailbox

It's labour day (la fête du travail) in Paris today, but I won't be able to show you Lilly of the valley (the flower  symbol of the day) because it's a theme day today. Theme: mailbox. I showed several mailboxes on this blog, but here is one again: the one just in front of my home! FYI, apparently the first mailboxes in France were installed in Paris during the 17th century, but the first postal service was really created during the 19th century. See more boxes around the world, thanks to the City Daily Photo community.

Edges

April 1st, no this is not an April fool's day photo, it's a theme day one... And the theme today is "Edges"! I really wasn't prepared to live on the edge today, but these figures apparently are ;-) So here you go, I took this photo at the Bir Hakeim bridge, a beautiful double decker bridge (the upper deck being used by the metro) with four statue groups by Gustave Michel on the edge. See how the rest of the City Daily Photo world was inspired by today's theme...

Where I feel good!

First of the month=theme day! (time flies, it's crazy...) Anyway today's theme is "my favorite part of town". I don't really have one except, like I already mentioned it several times, Les quais - the river banks. But I chose to show you a place where I feel good, I feel part of the city, I feel like I belong here: a typical Paris café, in front of which the passersby, well, pass by! I'm sure you know what I mean, for you certainly feel the same about some places in the city where you live. Check what the other CDP bloggers love about their city.

Fountain Stravinsky

Yeah! today is February 1st and it's a theme day! Today's theme is... Fountains and well, since I did not know what fountain to choose, I went especially for you to Beaubourg this morning to take a photo of this very famous Stravinsky Fountain that you probably saw if you came to Paris. Only I bet you haven't seen it from this point of you as it is rarely... frozen like it was this morning. I already explained everything about this fountain on this blog, but if you want to know more visit this. And to see some other fountains around the world, well, as usual, go to the City Daily Photo blog portal...

Best 2010 photo

Every year, when I turn back to my 365 photos, a few memories come to my mind: "this one I took on this very cold morning" or "for this one, I've been really lucky to be in the neighborhood"... so I like some of my shots for more than aesthetical reasons! Which makes it hard to choose the "best photo of the year". So this year I chose a pretty consensual shot, for I think many of you liked it. Let me wish you all a wonderful year, full of joy and happiness. That's what we all need (and yes, a booming economy too!).

It's time!

1st of the month = theme day! The one of today is: Time. When I saw this, I immediately thought of a photo I took at the crossing of rue Lafayette and rue du Faubourg Montmartre where there is public clock. I looked on the web and found out that there are 101 public clocks like this one - or the same kind - in Paris, that is on average 5 per arrondissement (and that doe not include the ones in shop windows of course!). No excuse to be late... See the rest of the community to see if everyone thought of a clock when the heard about our community theme day...

Belated Theme day

So yesterday was a theme day and... I forgot it! I know I should probably be banished from the City Daily Photo community for being so oblivious, but that is the way the cookies crumble. Besides it's probably the first time it happened ;-) Anyway, the theme day was Graffiti. You know I'm not short of them... Here is a new proof even if I don't really dare calling it a graffito as, to me, this looks more like a painting than anything else. It was made by Franck Duval, an artist known for his collages. I love his work. BTW, it is still time to visit the CDP community and see what graffiti they posted yesterday (there are some masterpieces) .

Market

Today is the 1st day of the month, therefore a theme day within the City Daily Photo community. Today's theme is pretty easy, as we have plenty of those in Paris: open air markets (check here for a complete listing and here for a map). Instead of showing you a colorful fruit and vegetable display, I chose this "sauerkraut", a typical dish of Alsace (a region in the East of France, close to Germany) that we call in French Choucroute. I took this photo at the Place Monge market in the 5th on the stand of a pork butcher... . See here, what the markets in London, Dubai, Moscow, Tokyo... and all the other cities part of the City Daily Photo community have to offer.

Theme Day: Bright colors

Here is a very nice theme day. I really encourage you to check the photos of all participants in this Theme Day around the world, as there are some amazing shots (I just did and saw what people who are ahead of (my) time photographed and it's really cool - and bright!). I took my photo in a souvenir shop near Montmartre (the same day I took this one) and I saved it for today. It's got everything: Eiffel Towers and bright colors! Enjoy your Sunday everyone.

Reflections

Here we go again... Today is the 1st of the month, therefore a theme day. Today's theme is much easier than the one of last month: reflections! I waited until dark, thinking it would be easier, but not really... I ended up on the Place de l'Etoile with my scooter. And the easiest I could think of, was to take a photo of the Arc de Triomphe in the mirror of my scooter. Check the reflections of the CDP community throughout the world by clicking here.

Thema Day : funny sign

Today is June 1st, therefore a theme day within the City Daily Photo community and today's theme is: "funny signs". I must confess I really did not have anything to post, for signs rarely crack me up! However, I found near Saint Sulpice, this cute little sign (a Catholic association called "Pour l'unité" apparently) that shows the three wise men. Nothing extraordinary, nor "funny" and surely not a good photo, but at least I can say I participated in the theme day!! As usual visit the other CDP around the world; they may have funnier signs than mine! Click here to view thumbnails for all participants
PS : don't forget the PDP picnic this Sunday (June 6) at 1 PM. More details on this Facebook Page. The weather is going to be gorgeous.

Red!

No April fool's day prank for today, but a good old Theme day post, like every fist of the month. Today's theme is Red, as you may already have seen on other participating City Daily Photo blogs. I did not really know what to chose, so I looked in my previous photos. I found this one that I took from the Eiffel tower, the day I got stuck in the elevator. I remember taking it because I thought "the lady in red" would make a nice spot in the photo. There you go...

Bubble Wood

Today is the first of the month and therefore it is a theme day... I  found out that the theme was "Wood". In Paris we have two woods (the Bois de Boulogne on the west side and the Bois the Vincennes on the East side) but I did not really feel like photographing a forest! Instead I chose to show you a "concept store" as we call it in "French", incidentally called Bubble Wood. I know it's a little lot far fetched but I like the photo... If you want to know more (providing you understand what you'll see!) check their stunning web site. Also check what the other City Daily Photo bloggers have come up with for today's theme day.

Attitude change

Before I left for my vacations I thought today was going to be "the best photo of the year theme day", just like last year. But... I discovered only after my departure that it had been postponed to January 15th and that, instead, today's theme day would be "changes" (click here to view thumbnails for all participants). So let me show you a change... in attitude. The French are now more conscious than before of the damage caused by drinking and driving. And in case they would forget, the government  has a few messages for them. Hence this campaign that goes "For the holidays, the best gift is to come home alive" which I think is pretty effective. I know it's not a very festive photo for the first day of the year, but it's at least an optimistic message! Happy new year everyone, don't forget that this year PDP will turn 5.
